American Camp Association Honors North Star Reach Board Member

We’re excited to share the news that North Star Reach board member Edward “Skip” Walton, M.D. will be honored at the American Camp Association’s (ACA) annual conference in Dallas, Texas this week.

Each year ACA honors extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the camp movement in the United States, and this year Dr. Walton is one of the award recipients of the Hedley S. Dimock Award (LINK:http://www.acacamps.org/conference/2013-award-recipients) which is given to someone who contributes to camping through related fields such as outdoor education, conservation, recreation, medicine, education, architecture, or the social sciences.

Dr. Walton is the division director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Oakland University.  A camper at heart, he grew up in camp and is currently a vice president of the American Camp Association.  He has also been a spokesman for ACA, most recently in regard to the H1N1 flu, and he also serves as spokesman on camp health for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

We are grateful to Dr. Walton for being a tireless advocate on behalf of North Star Reach.  We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor!
