North Star Reach Summer 2013 Volunteer Opportunities

This summer, North Star Reach is offering several opportunities for interested volunteers to get involved with upcoming programs.

Camp On The Move

Camp On The Move is a program in partnership with SeriousFun Children’s Network that allows North Star Reach to send campers to currently operating camps within the network. In its sixth season, volunteers, all being at least 19 years of age, are needed to fill several limited positions.

Cabin Counselor – Volunteer cabin counselors work directly with a group (6-10) of campers and in cooperation with full time seasonal staff are responsible for their safety and well-being while at camp. The time commitment is between 6 – 8 days depending on the session and all volunteers are required to attend pre-camp orientation and training held immediately prior to the start of the session. While volunteering on behalf of North Star Reach, each volunteer is interviewed and screened by the host camp. These volunteers also serve as travel chaperons for the camper on their way back from camp. North Star Reach will coordinate travel to and from camp. Eight positions are available, four female and four male.

Dates

  • Victory Junction, North Carolina – June 8 – 13
  • Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Connecticut – June 13 – 20
  • Double H Ranch, New York – June 19 – 25
  • Double H Ranch, New York – July 5 – 11

Travel Chaperone – Travel chaperones supervise a group of campers from Detroit to their host camp. The time commitment is about 24 hours and begins by attending the pre-camp family picnic the evening prior to departure, where they will have the opportunity to meet each camper and their family. Chaperones and camper families will be provided hotel accommodations near the airport as departure flights are generally very early in the morning. Once the campers reach the camp, chaperones catch a flight returning to Detroit typically arriving in the evening. North Star Reach will interview, screen and train each volunteer as well as coordinate travel. Eight positions are available, four female and four male.

Dates

  • Victory Junction, North Carolina – June 8 picnic, June 9 travel

Family Picnic Host – Hosts help provide a fun evening of fellowship prior to each session’s departure day. The picnics are held at a city park in Wayne, MI near Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Hosts help with set up, registration, food service and clean up. The best part is that this is a family friendly event and hosts are encouraged to bring their family members along.
